The Comisión Nacional del Agua says it has not received a formal request from the Government of Nuevo León or Servicios de Agua y Drenaje de Monterrey to reactivate Monterrey VI. It also says the Organismo de Cuenca Río Bravo has not received an updated executive project, studies, an opinion request or related review documents.
The clarification follows the state’s announcement that it was revisiting the 390-kilometer aqueduct concept, which would move water from the Río Pánuco toward the Cerro Prieto reservoir. El Horizonte reports that Agua y Drenaje submitted a Manifestación de Impacto Ambiental request to Semarnat on August 13; Conagua says that does not amount to a formal restart before its regional body.
Why it matters
For Monterrey’s long-term water resilience, the important distinction is between an announcement and a review-ready file. Conagua says a new review would require updated technical, legal, environmental and economic documentation before the project could enter a formal process.
The other side
The state has pointed to its environmental filing and renewed studies as evidence that the project is being examined. Conagua’s position is narrower: those steps do not yet constitute formal reactivation in its process.

Watch for an updated executive project and the next filing before the Organismo de Cuenca Río Bravo. El Norte also reports that Agua y Drenaje has not paid a fee of nearly MX$173 million tied to avoiding expiration of its Río Pánuco water allocation.
