Nuevo León led every state in Mexico for announced investment through the first seven months of 2026, according to figures the state economy secretariat put out this week. Betsabé Rocha, the state's Secretaria de Economía, put the total at US$5,631 million between January and July — 12% of every announced-investment dollar in the country during the period.
The state pegged 7,620 new jobs to the same pipeline. That's the number tied to projects that companies have publicly committed to, drawn from the Secretaría de Economía federal registry of announced FDI projects that Nuevo León tracks.
Where the money is landing
The state named three sectors that are pulling most of the announced capital: advanced manufacturing, mining, and energy. That mix is a small departure from the 2024–2025 stretch, when auto and electronics dominated almost every quarterly readout. The energy line matters because it reads through to the industrial-park power problem — companies committing capital to Nuevo León are, in effect, betting that transmission and generation will keep up. Caintra's own August statement that it sees fixable issues in transmission and distribution is the other side of that same wager.
How it compares
Two things worth keeping in mind. The state's own June readout, based on data through May 31, put the number at US$5,357 million and 14% of the national total. So the last two months added roughly $270 million in announced commitments, and Nuevo León's share of the national pie drifted down two points as other states caught up.
Second, announced-investment figures are a leading indicator, not a delivered one. They capture what companies publicly commit to, not what breaks ground. The gap between announcement and pour is where policy risk — USMCA renewal, industrial water and power, permitting — actually lives.
What we're watching
- The August-through-year-end update. If the pipeline keeps growing in the same range, 2026 will beat the state's own multi-year run rate.
- How the announced-investment total breaks down by sector when the state files its next detailed cut — the advanced-manufacturing/mining/energy mix is the most interesting shift.
- Whether the Foxconn, Pegatron, Quanta and Samsung talks that Rivas Rodríguez has been running convert into any of these announced-project lines.
