Nuevo León officials presented a plan to expand the Puente Internacional Colombia-Laredo with two new bridges for imports and exports. The reported investment is $200 million, split equally between Texas and Nuevo León, with construction expected to begin in May 2027.
The project would take the crossing from seven to 14 cargo lanes. State projections put the port at as many as 15,000 daily operations by 2030, while the plan also includes widening and modernizing State Route 001 Norte between Salinas Victoria and the Colombia customs facility.
Why it matters
For manufacturers and freight operators in the Monterrey–Salinas Victoria corridor, the relevant detail is not just another bridge. It is additional room at the northern outlet, outside the metropolitan road network, as cross-border volumes continue to build.
El Horizonte reported that the proposal also includes a Plan México industrial pole in Anáhuac. That connects the customs investment to a broader attempt to pull more activity toward the state’s northern edge, rather than concentrating every additional movement around Monterrey.
What to watch
The near-term checkpoint is May 2027, the announced start date. Before then, operators will be watching the final design, the State Route 001 Norte work, and how the Texas–Nuevo León funding arrangement is formalized.
