Mexico's 2027 federal spending proposal includes more than 1.5 billion pesos for maintenance and new equipment at the Cadereyta refinery, according to reporting by Publimetro and El Horizonte citing Nuevo León Environment Secretary Raúl Lozano.
The allocation comes after residents in the Monterrey metropolitan area reported recurring sulfur and ammonia odors. Nuevo León asked federal authorities for an urgent inspection, and the Agency for Safety, Energy and Environment (ASEA) has visited the refinery but has not yet delivered its final report.

Lozano said the inspection took place about a week after the state made its request and that ASEA is expected to present its results soon. The state is also participating in work to review NOM-016-CRE-2016, the fuel-quality standard, with the goal of receiving lower-volatility fuel for more of the year.
