Nuevo León’s economy grew 1.4% year over year in the first quarter of 2026, more than three times the 0.4% national pace, according to INEGI’s ITAEE indicator. The state government and El Horizonte both tied the result to data covering January through March.
The strongest movement came from primary activities, up 26.8%. Construction advanced 5.4% and commerce 3.9%, giving the headline a wider base than a single-sector rebound.
Why it matters
For Monterrey operators, the useful detail is where the growth showed up: construction and commerce were both positive alongside the state’s broader economic reading. That matters for suppliers, contractors and service businesses watching demand around the industrial corridor.
The result also puts Nuevo León among the states that contributed most to national growth in the period. The data is a quarterly snapshot, not a guarantee of the full-year outcome, but it gives local businesses a firmer starting point for the rest of 2026.
What to watch
El Horizonte reports that Caintra expects Nuevo León to finish 2026 up 2.5%, versus a 1.10% national GDP forecast. That is a forward-looking estimate; the 1.4% figure is the reported first-quarter result.
