The Comisión Federal de Electricidad reported awarding eight wind projects under mixed schemes in Nuevo León and Tamaulipas, with combined capacity of 2,949 megawatts and planned operations between 2029 and 2030. The projects will include battery systems totaling close to 890 MW, according to Forbes México and El Cronista México.
That is the clearest Nuevo León slice of a broader national plan. Sener says Mexico intends to add 6,860 MW of wind capacity by 2030; 4,701 MW is assigned to 17 plants and 2,159 MW remains pending assignment.

For industrial users in the northeast, the storage component is as important as the turbine count: the projects are designed to support the region's industrial poles. Sener also highlighted a single window for company self-consumption projects between 0.7 and 20 MW, coordinated with Cenace and CFE.
The national target is to lift renewables above 38% of generation by 2030, from 24.61% in 2025. The source coverage also identifies transmission expansion and permitting as conditions for the build-out, rather than treating the capacity target as operating supply today.
