A low-bed trailer carrying a tracked excavator struck the pedestrian bridge over Avenida Constitución in central Monterrey on Oct. 13, bringing part of the walkway down onto a Volkswagen on the express lanes, according to Milenio and El Norte.

Mota-Engil said it would assume responsibility and repair costs, and had insurance policies to cover damage to the car and road infrastructure, Milenio and El Horizonte reported. The outlets did not provide an estimated bill.

El Norte reported the express lanes reopened at about 5:45 p.m.; authorities then closed the ordinary lanes while crews removed the remaining span, which officials considered at risk of falling. The report gave no end time for that work. El Norte also reported Governor Samuel García's statement that the incident would not affect Metro construction.

  • Location: Avenida Constitución's express lanes, near Félix U. Gómez and Rafael Ramírez.
  • Reported cause: a trailer carrying a tracked excavator struck the bridge while passing underneath, according to accounts from the company and local authorities.
  • Company response: Mota-Engil said it would assume responsibility and repair costs and had insurance for damage to the vehicle and road infrastructure.
  • Traffic update: El Norte reported the express lanes reopened around 5:45 p.m.; ordinary lanes were closed during removal of the remaining span.
