LEGO will invest $400 million in Nuevo León to build a new packaging building and an automated warehouse, adding 62,000 square meters of industrial infrastructure and 1,300 jobs through 2029, the company and Mexico’s Economy Ministry announced Thursday.
The expansion extends LEGO’s manufacturing operation in the state, where it has operated since 2008. The Monterrey complex is the company’s largest manufacturing site, with production, decoration, assembly and distribution activities serving Mexico and export markets.
62,000 square meters through 2029
The investment will be deployed gradually through 2029. The new buildings are designed to add packaging and automated storage capacity rather than create a separate operation, giving the existing campus more room for the parts of the chain that move finished sets toward customers.
A larger supplier and export base
El Economista reports that LEGO expects to increase its supplier base by about 30%. The company said the expanded operation will support production for the domestic market and exports, while the Economy Ministry presented the project as part of Mexico’s effort to attract manufacturing investment.
