Nuevo León added 40,699 formal jobs between January and July 2026, according to Instituto Mexicano del Seguro Social figures reported by Reporte Índigo. Manufacturing accounted for 26,268 of those positions, El Horizonte reported, citing the state Economy Secretariat — 64.5% of the state total.
That puts factories at the center of the labor story, while construction added 10,911 jobs and services 6,933. The figures describe registered formal employment, not a forecast of future hiring or a measure of productivity.
Why it matters
The most immediate read-through is capacity and talent: manufacturing added 4,673 jobs in July alone and stood 4% above its December 2025 level, according to El Horizonte. That is a concrete signal of activity across the state’s industrial base, even as the broader economy remains uneven.
Reporte Índigo places Nuevo León’s 40,699 new jobs at 16.7% of the 243,078 created nationally through July. In July, Mexico as a whole lost 19,550 formal jobs while Nuevo León added 500 — a contrast worth watching, without treating one month as a trend.

The next IMSS releases will show whether manufacturing keeps leading the state’s job creation beyond July, and whether construction and services continue to add meaningful support.
